New features in 2004 SP1
Simulation Recorder
The Simulation Recorder will now work when using Windows 98 and Windows ME, in addition to the already supported Windows 2000 and Windows XP.Various under-the-hood enhancements were incorporated into the SP1 release of the Sim AutoBuilder Recorder to facilitate a more robust capture of your simulation.
Inserting a Simulation
The amount of time it takes to insert a simulation into ToolBook has been reduced significantly.ToolBook will now offer to resize your page(s) to fit the size of your imported simulation.
Simulations
A simulation may proceed automatically through the simulation steps after a specified number of seconds without any interaction from the user. In the Simulation Editor property grid, the Miscellaneous section provides a new "Automatically continue" option. You can set this continuation feature separately for each simulation mode: Assessment, Demonstration, or Practice mode.During a simulation, text entered by a learner can be evaluated automatically with these new answer text options: match case (uppercase or lowercase characters), match word order, accept "sounds like" words, and ignore punctuation. Authors can use the wildcard asterisk * character to indicate any number of acceptable characters in a specific location in a sentence for evaluating text entered by the user. To access these text response options when an editable text field is available on a simulation page, add an evaluation object to a step in the Simulation Editor to evaluate the text entered by the learner in the editable text field. While the evaluation object is selected in the step outline, look in the property grid of the Simulation Editor for the Value row and click in the corresponding cell in the right column to open a dialog box showing the response properties described above.
A new property ["Wait for continue"] applies to simulations shown in Demonstration mode. The "Wait for continue" property allows the learner to immediately see the effect of an action. The developer can specify whether the demonstration will wait for the learner to press a Continue button before the step animation is shown or after the step animation is shown. This option will also wait for automatic continuation to the next step if the "Automatically continue" property is set.
The Red Rectangle used to denote an incorrect response has been modified to permit you to change the color or not show the rectangle at all.
Setting Focus
The Execute Method action provides access to two new methods: SetFocus and RemoveFocus. The SetFocus method allows a developer to set the focus to a specified object. The RemoveFocus method clears the focus regardless of what object has the focus; it must be called as a method of an object that can get the focus.
General Notes About ToolBook Instructor 2004 SP1
Books created in 2004 will run in 2004 SP1 without running the Version Updater
The ToolBook Instructor 2004 SP1 release is backwards compatible with the 2004 release. ToolBook files created in Instructor 2004 or Assistant 2004 do not have to go through any conversion process in order to work in the 2004 SP1 release. Once saved in version 2004 SP1, your ToolBook files can still be opened by any ToolBook 2004 user.Uninstalling the ToolBook Instructor 2004 SP1 software
If you run the full installation of Instructor 2004 SP1 from the program disc, you can use the uninstall program provided with ToolBook to uninstall this software. If you upgraded to version 2004 SP1 by downloading the incremental update program from the SumTotal System Web site, you will notice there is no entry for ToolBook 2004 SP1 in the Add/Remove Programs properties dialog box of the Windows Control Panel. For removal of an incremental update, you can use the existing entry for ToolBook 2004.
Notable Things Fixed in 2004 SP1
Inserting a Simulation
If you had objects on your page prior to inserting a simulation onto a page, various problems would occur including:
- Simulation components being layered between your existing components.
- Components of your page disappearing once the Simulation is fully inserted.
- Errors in "SWAP LAYER" when inserting a simulation.
Simulation Feedback
It was possible to encounter multiple instances of a simulation feedback response instead of just one.Web Export
The Incremental Export feature (exporting a range of pages, or only page which had recently changed) is now functional.Actions Editor
It is once again possible to have the Actions Editor reference an object which is a sub component of a Question Object.GetParameter Function
Parameters passed to ToolBook's DHTML as part of the launch URL are now properly decoded.Neuron Installation
Several Registry entries would sometimes not get written correctly resulting in a TB85RUN.EXE error message.PixelSizing
The new PixelSizing feature introduced in ToolBook 2004 is now working in SP1.
