DHTML content window will not open when loading INDEX.HTML

The information in this article applies to:

Product: ToolBook
Component: DHTML
Product version(s): 7.x and Higher

Problem
When trying to launch a DHTML exported course, the loader window opens but the second window, the content window, does not.

Solution
This problem is known to occur for two reasons:

  1. ToolBook's DHTML content requires extensive use of Java and JavaScript, so your browser must be Java/JavaScript enabled.

  2. ToolBook's DHTML opens the second window via JavaScript, and Popup Blockers specialize in preventing JavaScript from opening new windows. If you have a popup blocker you will need to configure it to permit the opening of the window, or disable the popup blocker.

Not sure if you have a popup blocker installed? Visit the following Public web site which will test your browser to see if you do have one.

Note that Windows XP SP2 shipped with a new Popup Blocker built into Internet Explorer which is ON by default. If you wish to disable it:

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Access the Internet Options from the Tools menu
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click on the Custom Level button
  • Locate the Miscellaneous section of the Settings list
  • Disable the following option:
    Use Pop-up Blocker
  • Click OK
  • Click OK
