During the conversion into a ToolBook file any images within the PowerPoint file will be converted into PNG image files which are able to store these complex images, including the Alpha Channel transparency information.

In PowerPoint you can also add various shapes to your slides using the Insert | Shapes option. These shapes can then be enhanced by modifying the shape's Style to give it effects such as:
The image below is a screen capture from PowerPoint showing a basic example of a photo and star shape, both of which are shown in plain form as well as with some special PowerPoint image effects applied to them.

These effects are maintained through the conversion process.
Knowing this, you can now use PowerPoint 2007 to create sophisticated looking images for use in your ToolBook files.
