Unexpected Error - Registry Access Error

The information in this article applies to:

Product: ToolBook
Component: Web Export
Product version(s): ToolBook Instructor 9.5

PROBLEM
While exporting I get the following error:

Unexpected error
Registry access error

DETAILS
If you are logged into your computer using a regular User Account or a Power User account, you may encounter this error when exporting your ToolBook content to DHTML from ToolBook 9.5. This error will not be seen if you are logged in as an Administrator.

This error is appearing in ToolBook 9.5 because of some DHTML enhancements made to the ToolBook exporter. One of those enhancements require accessing the registry, and in certain conditions this error can occur.

SOLUTIONS
The release of Service Pack 1 for ToolBook 9.5 fixed this problem. You can locate SP1 here.

If you are not ready to install SP1 yet, your options are to log into your computer as an Administrator or to update ToolBook by replacing a key file used in the export process as outlined below.

Updating your ToolBook.jar file will fix this problem for your particular computer. To perform the update:

  • Close ToolBook
  • Download this replacement JAR file.
    ftp://ftp.sumtotalsystems.com/pub/tb2/instructor/95/ToolBook.jar
It is recommended you save it to your desktop.
  • Located the original ToolBook.jar in your Product folder and rename it to ToolBook.jar.original. You'll typically find it here.
    C:\Program Files\ToolBook\Instructor 9.5\ToolBook.jar
  • Move the ToolBook.jar file from your desktop to the Product folder.
